FBI Expands DC Attack Inquiry
This Thursday, the Federal Bureau of Investigation raided a number of residences as it expanded its probe into a shooting in Washington that took place on the previous day, leaving one national guard member dead and another in grave state.
Suspect's Past and Residence Searched
These raids covered a residence in the state of Washington associated with the accused, Afghan national Rahmanullah Lakanwal, who officials said was part of a Central Intelligence Agency-funded unit in Afghanistan before entering the America in the year 2021 under a resettlement program.
Federal agents confiscated numerous tech equipment from the residence, including cellphones, portable computers, and iPads, and spoke with his relatives, FBI director Kash Patel announced at a news conference.
National Guard Member Beckstrom Dies After Shooting
Subsequently on Thursday, Donald Trump revealed that Sarah Beckstrom, one of the National Guard soldiers injured in Washington DC, had died.
Beckstrom, aged 20, was one of two members of the guard shot; the other individual, Wolfe, twenty-four, is still gravely injured, as stated by the President.
Trump Calls for Re-examination of Afghan Immigrants
Donald Trump has called for his administration to re-examine every individual from Afghanistan who arrived in the country during Joe Biden’s administration, after law enforcement officials named the suspect in the shooting as a man from Afghanistan.
Washington Suspect Had Agency Ties, Authorities Confirm
The suspected shooter was part of CIA-backed military units during the US war in the Afghan war, the CIA has verified.
The alleged gunman, named as Lakanwal, twenty-nine, entered the US in the fall of 2021 under an immigrant program that gave some Afghans who had been employed by the American government legal entry to the United States.
The probe is ongoing as investigators piece together evidence and interview individuals.
