Magyar Author Krasznahorkai László Wins the Nobel Award in Literary Arts

Portrait of László Krasznahorkai

Krasznahorkai was won the prestigious Nobel in Literature.

The Hungarian writer was honored "for his compelling and visionary oeuvre that, in the midst of cataclysmic dread, asserts the might of creative expression."

The author has authored 5 books and garnered many other literary prizes, such as the 2015 International Booker Award, and the 2013 best rendered work prize in Fiction for his debut book "Satantango", a postmodern piece about the finish of the planet.

Krasznahorkai is the second Magyar author to obtain the prize subsequent to the former Imre Kertesz, who received in 2002.

Originating in 1954, the author earned acclaim in 1985 when he released Satantango, which he converted for the movies in 1994.

The monochrome film, by Magyar cinematographer Tarr Bela, is notable for its 7-hour running time.

His other books consist of:

  • Melancholy of Resistance (the late 80s)
  • "War and War" (1999)
  • "Seiobo There Below" (2008)

The award body characterized the writer as "a outstanding grand novelist in the European heritage that extends by way of Franz Kafka to Thomas Bernhard, and is defined by absurdist themes and grotesque overindulgence."

His 2021 novel "Herscht 07769" has been labeled as a major modern Deutsch novel, due to its exactness in depicting the land's societal unrest right before the pandemic.

This is a representation of a modern village in Thuringia, Germany, afflicted by societal chaos, homicide and arson.

"Kind titan Florian is an orphan, raised by a far-right extremist who has mentored him as a graffiti eraser.

"His employer, a Bach fanatic, is furious that a person is using wolf emblems across the memorials to the celebrated musician in their Eastern German city."

One critique remarked it as "thus dark from start to finish."

Krasznahorkai's most recent mock-heroic book, Zsömle Odavan, reverts to Magyarország.

The protagonist is elderly Józsi Kada, who has a secret right to the royal seat but has made every effort to vanish from the globe.
